The was the DS9 episode where imitation Riker acted like he was piss'ed at
O'brien in order to avoid being discoverd as an imposter.

I watched that episode last night, it was 'Defiant'.

I was wondering the same thing, I couldn't remember anything starting that
feud..
Anyone know how it began or was it just a cover up to get rid of O'Brien?

it wasn't William Riker

It was his transporter accident clone Thomas Riker in that episode.

Hey Salmack,

I know that it was his clone, just wondering if there was anything at all
behind it that might have happend between Riker and O'Brien, or was it
Thomas just faking a fued to get O'Brien off the defiant.

Yes it was a coverup.

I believe it was in the script because Tom Riker held O'Brien responsible for
the transporter mishap that caused the cloning mixup in the first place. In
that case, Tom Riker would have good reason to be angry with O'Brien. Or maybe
he just has it in for Transporter Chiefs in general... a guilt by association
kind of thing.

My recollection was that O'Brien was completely baffled by 'Riker's' anger
and outburst and shrugged it off at the time as something Riker would
confront him about and explain later. It was crafty on the part of Thomas
Riker to do this to ensure that O'Brien would avoid him and bring up
anything about their service on Enterprise that Thomas wouldn't know and
would expose as an imposter.

The one thing about that episode that seems unlikely is how a military
officer could travel without confirmable orders. In a future where cloning
or other clever means could allow an imposter access to sensitive areas
knowing that the person you're dealing with is actually the person you think
it is would be critical.

The fact that Wil Riker had double and that double was (out of Starfleet or
AWOL? I can't remember) should have been a red flag in his service record. I
suppose it reflects that when the episode was written that the explosion of
identity theft and terrorist concerns hadn't entered our social
consciousness yet.

No, and no offense because I can see you're not alone, I can't believe people
still get confused by this. The bottom line is that Tom needed to get O'Brien
away quickly lest he be discovered by the one person on DS9 who knows Will
Riker and can spot that Tom's an imposter. If O'Brien started discussing old
times on the Enterprise, he'd probably bring up something Tom had no knowledge
of, and O'Brien would put it all together. Maybe the writers needed to add a
line explaining it later, but it always made sense to me.

Besides, I don't recall O'Brien even being involved with the original
transporter accident that created two Rikers. Where is that established?

I haven't watched "Defiant" since it first broadcast so I recalled the episode
incorrectly. I thought Tom Riker had alluded to it at some point, but your
explanation makes good sense.
Cheers...
